E. Neil Harri had a unique opportunity in viewing and photographing this past week, when he spotted a bald eagle in Eagle Harbor on the ice. He soon figured out that it was taking a bath in Lake Superior before it took off to go fishing for some dinner in the opening waters of the Harbor. Someone commented that it must have been taking a Spring Bath for mating time. But Neil responded that eagles mate for life and are already sitting on their eggs this season, so he figured the eagle just wanted to spruce up and look good for photographers like him. Makes sense to me. Great captures for sure!

It’s always a big deal when you get to see a moose in person here UP North. In case you don’t know the history of moose in the U.P., it was 40 years ago that moose were reintroduced to the U.P. and it was quite the event. Discovering the U.P. covers the story and the ongoing monitoring of the moose herd. We have Part 1 today and stay tuned tomorrow for Part 2, along with more about those cougar cubs we featured earlier on March 18th

For all Aurora photographers:
AN URGENT CALL FOR AURORA PHOTOS: Four first-time astronauts soared into space onboard a Falcon 9 rocket and became the
first humans to orbit over Earth's poles this week, on April 1st. Part of their mission is to study "weird auroras"--and they need our
help. Aurora photos taken from the ground during the next 3 to 5 days may help the pioneering astronauts of Fram2 interpret
their own space-based images. Find out how to participate on the April 1st edition of Spaceweather.com, by clicking on the link below. From what I read, today and tomorrow are the last days for taking Aurora photos to submit for this project:

Such beautiful, majestic birds. You're
very lucky, Neil.

Very nice, well timed shots!
And a Scottish saying;
If I saw that moose in my
hoose, I’d hate to see a rat.

World's largest Bird Bath?

Make sure the accurate time and GPS location is correctly stored by the camera or else otherwise properly recorded.

The Isle Royale web cameras are time stamped but the clock is wrong by something close to a minute.
