Yesterday we had an idea of the size of the waves that the winds were kicking up on Lake Superior. Today we have some photos taken by Jeff Dennis of the freighters that were sheltering in Bete Grise bay during the storm. Jeff snapped photos with the Alpena and the Dirk S. Vanenkvore (pusher tug) with the Michigan Trader (barge). I’m not positive, but I think the third freighter in that top photo with Fritz, is the Edgar B. Speer. It seems lessons were learned from the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald and the freighter Captains are much more cautious nowadays and head for sheltered bays to wait out the storms.

The bottom photo of the deer at sunrise is out at Little Traverse and it was just too good not to share. Such beautiful coloring of the sky that morning and it looks like the deer were enjoying the sunrise, too!

Jeff wraps up the day with a short timelapse of the Great Lakes Freighters sheltering in Bete Grise, with the sun rising over Lake Superior. It’s a quick look at the sun as it rises, the clouds moving through the sky and you can even see the freighters moving about, but don’t blink or you’ll miss all the action.

This is all so cool. Thanks for
getting up so early to get these,
Jeff. The 2nd one's my favorite,
with the deer close behind. And
the one of Fritz with all of the
freighters in the background is
awesome, too. And the video was
the icing on the cake.

Hi Fritz!
I love and deer pic too. It does appear that they're enjoying that sunrise!

Deb, you picked my two favorites too. Always cool to see the freighters all together like that. The time lapse is great!
