If you’ve been following the Pasty Cam for any length of time, you know that Nancy Haun really gets around here UP North. She was recently at Martins Landing (near Champion and Michigamme) and snapped this beautiful shot of the Peshekee River. She said there is still tons of snow in the high country around there and water everywhere, adding that the beaver is very busy here on the other side of the bridge.
Nancy’s second photo is the Canadian National just about to cross the Peshekee River where it flows into Lake Michigamme. She’s standing on the old trunkline bridge which is accessible on foot, to snap this shot.
In case you’re wondering, as I was, the Peshekee River is a 31.1 mile long river, a tributary of Lake Michigamme. The waters from the Peshekee, eventually flow via the Michigamme River and the Menominee River, to Lake Michigan. Now you know!
We’re joining Kristin Ojaniemi, producer and host of Discovering, for a segment on what makes the Copper Country the Copper Country. The video lead-in says: “The copper mining boom might be a thing of the past in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, but copper is still plentiful, the history is rich and there are plenty of ways to experience it all.” So sit back and enjoy this twenty minute look back at the history of mining in the Copper Country.

That video is so amazing...just think of what these people did to this area....wow. I am so addicted to Discovering. Kristin Ojaniemi HAS taken it over. Brian retired.

I feel like I know a few things, and one that’s important is that we have to be strong enough to continue to love and care about the generations to come in the way our ancestors have done for us.
Have to put this place on our bucket list also. Cool video.

Saw where Herman, Nancy's stomping grounds, got 52" of snow in the last storm - the snow 'winner' in the UP. That equates to 8" of rain. Hope it doesn't all melt at once!
Very interesting video - always good to learn something new!
