On a recent visit to Canyon Falls, often referred to as the Grand Canyon of the U.P., Nancy Haun found it incredibly wet and slippery. She said a walking stick was helpful, but careful steps were necessary to get a good look at the rushing waters of the Sturgeon River. Once they got to the falls, they didn’t go further, as there was a slab of ice with water on top, which made it so slippery that it was not safe. Nancy declared the adventure still worth the trip, even with the dense fog around them at times. There was no one else about that day, but she noticed lots of wood piled next to the walkways, which will be use to make new the leaning old walkways underneath that icy trail. The Sturgeon River is running quite well, with rapids gushing and rushing by. Spring runoff in the U.P. is something to see.
Another river that’s running rapidly right now, is the Tobacco River outside of Gay. Al White was there with his new-fangled camera. I had assumed he made this video with a drone, but Al told me it was with a 360° camera on a selfie stick, that takes a picture front, back, up, down and all around, with a fish-eye lens on both sides. Pretty amazing, he even takes us under the bridge and then under water, too!

Very nice! I too, thought it was a drone that
ended up in the drink at the end.

canoe trip w/some friends on the Sturgeon river. By
the time he got done telling that story...I hadda
go wipe my face off...I was just crying tears from
laughing so hard!
