On a recent, beautiful evening, Chad Johnson and his partner John headed back home via Traprock Valley after dinner out. That first photo looks like they were chasing the moon, then the next one they caught it. Check out the snowbanks on the sides of the road there… all that snow melts and makes for muddy roads. You can see the wet on that dirt road in the photos. Then Chad captured the opening UP of the rivers along the way, too. The melting snow will also bring those rivers to higher levels and hopefully will melt gradually, so there won’t be any flooding of the country roads nearby. Great scenes captured and a wonderful way to end a day!

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, check out the Winter Wander Event in Copper Harbor. It is hosted by The Copper Harbor Trails Club on Saturday, March 22nd. Choose your favorite activity, cross-country skiing, fat biking, or snowshoeing, and take advantage of this free event to explore the End of the Road trails, to enjoy the beauty of the Keweenaw, and a day of outdoor fun. Click here for more information: Winter Wander Event

Also, the Soo Locks are opening earlier than their expected date. MI Playground shares the dates for a reminder if you’d like to be there for their opening day of the season.

Beautiful pics....wow...lots of snow still too. I
wondered how the Traprock River got the name...I
found nothing but:

Trap Rock, Vein of the Keweenaw

Many of the Keweenaw Peninsula's rivers flow
quickly to either shore and spill out into Lake
Superior. Not Trap Rock River. Trapped between the
highlands of Mohawk/Laurium and lower hills west
of Gay, this river bumbles around a narrow valley
on its way down to Lake Linden. A few waterfalls
are located on some its tributaries flowing down
the highlands.

AND, I guess it's Trap Rock River!

That can't be right?? It goes into Torch Lake,
which goes around and ends up in Superior...???

Beautiful pictures. The first two
are awesome. How my dad loved to
fish that river.

Now that’s what I call;
getting mooned!

“Now goodnight moon
I want the sun
If it's not here soon
I might be done
No it won't be too soon
til I say Goodnight moon
No it won't be too soon '
til I say Goodnight moon”
