Deb Simons said it was a beautiful, but windy day for the 1st Annual Lake Linden Community Picnic last week and from the looks of her photos, it was a good time. The Lake Linden Fire Department had a giant fireman’s slip and slide, there was a bouncy house donated by Campioni’s True Value, hot dogs and all the trimmings were donated by Louie’s Fresh Market and cooked by the Lindell’s crew and there was music by Cathy and the Backroads Band. The event was sponsored by the Lake Linden Downtown Development Association as a fun way to celebrate the Lake Linden Community and meet your neighbors. My only question is did Deb and/or Ron get bouncy or did they get wet on the giant slip and slide?

We join Visit Keweenaw for another Crossing Place video in their series. This one features Chassell’s Sturgeon River where you can launch into nature and history. From the lead-in to the video: “Nestled up to the shorelines of Pike Bay and Portage Lake, Chassell's Sturgeon River and Sloughs have provided awe-striking access to the lush and vibrant Keweenaw wetlands. This smooth-flowing water system makes for great paddling, kayaking, and canoeing... and now with the addition of an ADA accessible kayak launch, the Sturgeon River's beauty is available to all who seek it. For those who seek to learn and understand Chassell and the Sturgeon's intertwined lumber legacy, folks can immerse themselves in the Chassell Historic Trails. Here interpretive signage offers educational connections between nature and the Copper Country lumber days, all along a maintained trail and boardwalk system.” Get out there and enjoy the Keweenaw!

It was a really fun day. I wish
there'd have been a better
turnout, but those who were there
seemed to have a really good time.
It wasn't real warm, but that
didn't stop the kids from getting
wet the whole time. They had a
blast. And, because the turnout
wasn't huge, those of us who were
there got to have 2nd's of
everything, too. There were prizes
given away, mostly for the kids,
but there was one prize for the
adults. Everybody was handed a
ticket when we got our food. The
kids prizes were donated by the
Little Gem and they also brought
more games for the kids. There was
also face painting. That was a big
hit. Cathy and the Backroads Band
played really good music, too. I
think the day was a hit, and
here's hoping that Lake Linden's
2nd Annual Community Picnic is an
even bigger hit. They maybe will
have to change the weekend, as
there are those who go away for
one last summer bash on Labor Day
Weekend.

That's outstanding...Lake Linden knows how to have
a good time...always did...

Chassell has really updated their little town
too...they have some beautiful spots.

Outstanding!

Lake Linden-Hubbell High School has introduced
this year’s Athletic Hall of Fame class. It
includes…

Ken Anderson, who excelled in football and track
and field in the late 1960s.

Dean Londo, the first girls basketball coach in
school history, who led the team from 1973 to
1996.

Kenn Clouthier, who won seven varsity letters in
football, basketball and track and field in the
late 1970s.

Andy Crouch, who led the 1991 Lakes football team
to the state finals, and also excelled in
basketball and track. He became an assistant coach
with the football team in 1997, then served as
head coach from 2002 to 2019.

Jaimie Koskela, a leader of the 1992 state
championship football team who also excelled in
basketball. He returned to Lake Linden-Hubbell
High School in 2000 as a teacher and coach.

It looks like great fun! And sometimes it takes a little time to get an event rolling. If the people who were there tell others how much fun they had then next year will be bigger. And like you said, Deb, maybe timing could help. Glad the folks who were there were rewarded!

Looks like a gorgeous day with those
UNbeatable UP blue skies.
And no slip sliding for Deb and Ron???
What’s up with that???
Just as well.
“ Slip sliding away, slip sliding away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip sliding away”
(Paul Simon)
And a relaxing, calming video too.

Great pics and Donna you're right, Lake Linden knows
how to have a good time. Also, didn't really know
that about the Sturgeon River. But I don't think me
in a Kayak is a good idea. lol
