The Swedetown Recreation Area trails have become overrun with highly invasive Buckthorn bushes, so they recently enlisted the help of 70 grazing goats from Wisconsin, owned and managed by Jake And Brigid Williams of Regenerative Ruminants, to get to work on the buckthorn so the natural vegetation can return and thrive. They had several days that the public could come and meet these busy goats and their frisky kids, so Debbie Jarve took her granddaughters to check it all out. In the first photo, you can see one of her granddaughters with the camera. She’s learning how to use Grandma’s camera! She actually took the 2nd and 3rd photos. I think she’s following in her Grandma’s footsteps and is pretty lucky to have a built-in teacher to show her how she captures the beauty of the Keweenaw like she does.
WJMN Local 3 TV has a news clip from the Swedetown Trails Regenerative Ruminants Goats visit last July that gives an informative look at what they’re doing there this year and how it works on a three year plan. Nice to see invasive species controlled without chemicals.

Goats are so cute. Nice way to
clean up the area while feeding
the goats. Nice job on the
pictures, Debbie's granddaughter.
