Deb and Ron Simons recently did a bit of touring in the Rockland area and stopped at the Victoria Dam and Falls to check things out. Deb said it was a beautiful day for a drive and the area did not disappoint. She had never been to Rockland and thought it was a cool little town. They were able to enjoy the falls running quite rapidly, Deb said she recommends a visit there, but this time of year especially, bring bug spray as they were awful. Despite the bugs, she said it was worth the stop!

Victoria Dam and Reservoir Bond Falls Hydroelectric Project is owned and operated by Upper Peninsula Power Company and is open to the public without discrimination (according to the sign there). A number of “warning” signs are around the area for public safety and some areas are foot traffic only. For more information, check out the following link: Victoria Dam

Deb also recorded a nice video of the falls in action, almost as good as being there in person. Make sure your speakers are turned up, so you can hear the water, too!

That is a massive piece of construction out
there...it is so cool....So glad I got out there
decades ago.

Deb, did you eat at Henry's Never Inn? A lil
restaurant in town that used to have the most
massive amounts of food on certain nights. I hope
they still do it....

A friend and I went out there so long ago, and we
stopped at the little mining shacks to peek. A
Gent that was mowing, ran over, and unlocked one
of the cabins and gave us a personal tour. Unreal
how folks lived...we truly have no idea how
pampered we are...

AND, on the way home, we had a mosquito in the
car. My friend is African American. She said "Darn
mosquito..doesn't know if it wants white meat or
dark meat" and we cracked up!

That was a great day. I'll
definitely go again. Problem is,
to see the falls running like
that, you have to go when the bugs
are bad. I'd love to go back to
have a picnic and maybe do some
fishing.

That's a funny story about the
mosquito, Donna. We very nearly
stopped at that little bar, but it
wasn't quite supper time so we
didn't. Really cute little town.
