These photos that Judy Byykkonen recently captured at Bucky’s (a.k.a. Calumet Waterworks Park) really caught my eye, with the thin coating of ice atop the huge rocks and the ice frozen on the branches, looking like a hand of sorts. Very cool, literally! That’s one of her four-legged companions, Minnie, in the third photo, looking like she’s climbing an ice mountain with her short little legs. And that bottom photo...I absolutely love the way the water was running off the rocks and just froze right in place like that. Must have been some big waves washing over those rocks. Always something beautiful to see there and most of the time it’s gone the next time you visit.

We head to Brimley with The Wild Where You Are. The video lead-in says: “Filmmaker and photographer Coulter Stuart from Green Globe Films and photographer Doug Julian take a trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to meet Erik Rintamaki. In 2017 Erik discovered glowing rocks on the shore of Lake Superior. They were the 386th mineral discovered in Michigan. He named them Yooperlites.”

Very nice Judy!! The sunlight really shows off the ice formations - and little Minnie! Beautiful! Looks like Herman 'wins' again with the latest storm: The community of Herman experienced some of the highest snow totals at around 28 inches.

Very well done vid. So cool!

A quick update on Uncle Chuck...he ended up back in the hospital Wednesday and just got back home last night. He's tired and going to relax and watch the Tigers after a good shower. He said to let you all know he'll be back on here in a couple days and he misses his Pasty Fam.
Please continue to keep him in your prayers, along with Mr. Deb (Ron).

Herman ALWAYS wins. I remember when I lived down that way...coming out of the grocery store, just before winter was to begin, a car pulled up covered in snow....there was a pack of us standing
there when the fella got out of his car, we all asked where he just came from, and his answer was "Herman".

If you like cemeteries, there's one up there covered with Spring flowering ground cover and it is simply stunning.

These pics are so gorgeous...That one does look like someone's hand frozen under the rocks!

And the vid is magic. Oh how I wish these were found BEFORE I got past "walking the beach for agates" stage. I couldn't dothat if I had a rideto the beach! grrr..

Oh no...UC...arghhhhhhh....I hope you get better soon, so you can get back U.P.

Mr. Deb...you get better too.

Oh wow! Judy does it again! These are extraordinary! Her trips to Bucky's always produce such great shots. Thank you, Judy.

UC, I'm so sorry to hear you were back in the hospital. I hope you'll be fine this time. You've had more than your share of problems and I hope this is it now.

Mary (and everybody), thanks for the prayers for Ron. He's home and says the pain isn't horrible yet. The pills and ice are helping. He's been napping for a while now because he didn't sleep well last night. I pray the therapy won't be terrible, but I know it won't be easy. Sure do love having my caring pasty family.

Congratulations Judy! You did it again. Fantastic captures of Mother Nature's handiwork and the Sun cooperated well.

U.C.,
Best wishes and prayers.

Deb,
I too hope Ron's therapy goes well and the pain level is low.

Several years ago I broke my collar bone and got what is called "frozen shoulder". Apparently the surrounding muscles can detect a problem and then excrete some chemical that causes the muscles to greatly stiffen up, I guess it's trying to protect and immobilize the joint. It sometimes requires a surgeon to manipulate the shoulder while under a 2nd general anesthesia, in order to loosen things up.

I knew nothing of these details as I called around to various PT facilities. A nice person on the phone spent several minutes explaining how their therapists took great care and time to minimize discomfort. It was a real sales job. Then they asked me about my ailment and I said frozen shoulder. After a VERY long pause on their end they finally spoke saying, "Ohhhh, that's gonna hurt!"

Not to scare Ron, but it's better to go in open-eyed but hoping for the best.

Cool pix…the hand looks like the lower peninsula.
What’s up with that?
Ron and UC…speedy recovery,Dudes. Summer’s
right around the corner, time to get off and on.
Remember, I live vicariously through you all.
And if I missed anybody…”Be well!”
