Deb Simons and her hubby Ron made a circle tour of the falls and parks of the Keweenaw late last week. We’ll be featuring photos from this tour for the next three days, since there are just too many to share on one day. So stay tuned for Part 2 on Thursday and Part 3 on Friday.

Today we’re taking a look at the falls Deb and Ron visited here in the Keweenaw, starting with Eagle River Falls. From the first two photos you can see that the falls there are running quite well and there seems to be a bit of ice still lingering, too. Next stop was Jacobs Falls, which still has a bit of snow surrounding them, but are running, just not real full force yet.

Deb’s fourth photo is the beautiful new bridge that was built last summer over the Silver River and her fifth shot is the Silver River Falls, flowing quite nicely along. Last, but not least is Haven Falls in Lac La Belle. The park there is in a more shaded spot, to there’s still some snow on the grounds there, too and the falls seem to be cascading over the ledge, creating a pretty scene.

We top off the tour today, with a video Deb recorded of the Eagle River Falls. You’re going to want your volume turned up so you can get the full effect of the sights and sounds.

Mary, feel free to remove if inappropriate.

However, I can now finally share more publicly that Michigan Rocks! was selected as one of twenty "Notable Books of 2023" by the Library of Michigan. Can't believe that my lil ole book on Michigan geology was awarded this honour and that now I get to attend the Night for Notables event at the State Capital next month! This will just be a short trip to Lansing, but we'll be in the Keweenaw again this summer for a couple weeks (and yes, I will have books...)

Nice set, Deb…I’m glad you’re able
to get out there to explore and enjoy!
And congratulations Capt., you’re
studies and hard work have come to fruition.
But then, if you love what you’re
doing it’s not really hard work, is it?

By Donna (Donna) on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 - 10:45 am:

Congratulations Capt...that is impressive!~

Fun falls....Beautiful pics.

I wonder how many times the Haven Falls has been
photographed!

Nice shots Deb. Looking forward to tomorrow (your other pictures not just the prospect of waking up).

There's more water flow than I expected at Eagle River Falls, due to mild Winter. I think they did a fabulous job replacing the Silver River/M26 bridge.

Congratulations Capt. Paul.

Donna,
I'm guessing Jacob Falls is the most photographed, but you're right. With Haven Falls easy access, it too has high visitation, but the traffic on the southeast side seems to always be substantially less than the northwest.

Thanks for taking us along on the ride Deb! Gorgeous waterfalls and nice to see the 'new' bridge again! Looking forward to the next two days' pictures as well.

Congrats Capt Paul! After enjoying my copy of your book i can say it was well worth the honor!
