We have quite a treat today, with photos from five different photographers of the Northern Lights display from last week. Reports are indicating that this latest solar storm was the biggest in 20 years. If you missed it, don’t fret, as the solar cycle peaks in 2025, so you’ll have more opportunities to see another one yet.
In the meantime, we start with a photo from Sarah Seavoy, taken on Keweenaw Bay from the site of the Bishop Baraga shrine. Stunning comes to mind for me. If you’re interested in purchasing any of Sarah’s shots of this Aurora activity, click here: Northern Lights – Bishop Baraga
The second photo was snapped by Isaac Diener over Toivola. Isaac mentioned that people pay money to fly to Alaska or Iceland to take photos like this, so it was a special night for him.
In the third position is a photo from Diane Richard, taken in the L’Anse area. It’s interesting how the different camera choices create different colors, yet all of them show the magnificent bursts of light overhead.
Next in the lineup...the fourth picture, was snapped by Joanne Furton in the Menominee area. That’s the Menominee North Pier Lighthouse with the Aurora dancing above. Joanne said that the lighthouse photo has been in her imagination for years, but looking out towards the lighthouse is not North, so she wasn’t sure it would ever happen. She added that this was an epic solar storm that had aurora moving fast in every direction that she looked, including overhead.
And last, but not least, 906 Images headed out to the Black Rocks in Marquette for a “self portrait” of him standing on the Blackrocks, with the Northern Lights dancing above. All five of these photos are amazing representations of the solar storm and I for one, am grateful that these photographers are always so willing to share them with us.
Sit back now, with 906 Outdoors for a look at the various critters that inhabit our wetlands with Ecologist, Ryne Rutherford. And Early Spring Brown Trout fishing on the Menominee River with guide, Brian Clairmont. The video is a little over twenty-two minutes, so get comfortable and enjoy!

Incredible pix to begin the month of May.
April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?
Alex said: April showers, bring May flowers. We have snow here UP North for May 1st...yippee. NOT...more inches in some areas, than others.
Anyway, with the first of May, the ticks are also out and about (maybe not today with the wind and snow), so Donna suggested sharing this news article about a Michigan Tech crowd-sourcing project to collect ticks. You can read about it here: Michigan Tech Tick Project
