When the winds start blowing, 906 Images heads out to his favorite place to capture Lake Superior waves rolling, crashing and making a big splash. Presque Isle is the perfect spot to capture those huge waves when the Big Lake is rocking and rolling. These shots are outstanding with the color and clarity, especially in the first two shots. Did you find the heart in the top photo?

The last three photos were captured on a different day, when there was a bit of snow in the air, along with the wind that was whipping Superior into a frenzy of wave action. Beauty in the midst of all that power.

We wind up this wavy day, with a video that puts you front and center of all the action. Watch out, you may get some spray from the waves rolling in if you get too close!

Classic pix and an exciting & exhilarating video! Thanks for sharing.

I couldn’t find the heart in #1, but it did excite my bladder.

By Donna (Donna) on Friday, April 28, 2023 - 10:01 am:

I didn't see a heart either, Alex...but stunning
stuff.....and that big lake....no matter what her
mood is...she is beautiful!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Friday, April 28, 2023 - 10:44 am:

There appears to be a heart in the white water on the upper right side of the picture.

Every time Mary features pictures like these i think of the old time sailors and what it was like for them to be caught in a storm like this.

These pictures are all spectacular but those first
two are simply amazing! And the video was worth a
second and third look. Mother Superior at its
finest.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, April 28, 2023 - 12:02 pm:

And oh yes. I saw the heart immediately.

Hi
A week ago the PBS show Nature featured the Niagara
escarpment. It focused on Niagara Falls, of course,
but it also showed Lake Huron's Georgian Bay. There
were huge waves hitting a rocky coast featured as
well. It was nice to see the power of the Great
Lakes shown to a national audience.

Spoiler Alert...

Niagara Escarpment

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, April 28, 2023 - 07:37 pm:

You can get a great look at the Escarpment when you visit Fayette State Park. The dolostone cliffs on the other side of the bay is the Escarpment.

Your book arrives this weekend, Capt. and I’m feeling escarpment

excitement.

Capt. Paul,

Any similarities between Fayette and Pictured Rocks?

Fayettee

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Saturday, April 29, 2023 - 10:45 am:

While similar in appearance, Pictured Rocks and the Niagara Escarpment are two very different formations.

The Niagara Escarpment is composed almost entirely of limestone and dolomite (both carbonates) and forms a prominent ridge along the outer edge of the Michigan Basin. The rocks that make up Pictured Rocks are much older and are made up of sandstone derived from ancient river and shallow marine deposits.

Want to know more? I know a good book that describes both in greater detail... ;-)

Thanks Capt. Paul, looking forward to reading it.
