Over the weekend it was announced that M-26 between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor is closed, due to the Silver River bridge failure near the intersection of Brockway Mountain Drive and Lake Shore Drive. The bridge was built in 1930 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It had been down to one lane already, with replacement of the bridge to start next week, but with the collapse of the bridge, it was closed completely, earlier than had been anticipated. US-41 is advised for Travel to and from Copper Harbor.
Thankfully, Marcy Bessolo Hermanson went on a Keweenaw waterfall tour a week ago, before the bridge collapsed and was able to walk around the Silver River Falls a bit, snapping perhaps some of the last photos of the Historic Silver River Bridge. She also captured the falls at their finest with the water rushing and gushing on its way to Lake Superior.
Marcy also recorded a video that shows the force and volume of the water that was flowing that day. The sound is something else, too!

These are some of the best pictures I have ever seen taken of these falls. And it's so sad about the bridge. It's always been one of our favorite places to go when we were making our rounds. I'm thankful that I have such great pictures of this area and the bridge before it collapsed. There were always people here when we stopped. It was very popular. Thanks to Marcy for venturing out to capture these for us. I've had the same deer picture for my screen saver on my laptop for years. It's now going to be one of these pictures. The video was awesome also

Alex, I wouldn't think a lot because you can still easily get to Eagle River and Eagle Harbor.

Shouldn't affect the Jampot any as they are west of Eagle Harbor and folks can use the Delaware Cutoff to bypass the bridge. Sad that the bridge is no longer there as there were some great geologic outcrops nearby.
Speaking of rocks, after a long labour of love, my book on Michigan geology is finally done and available for purchase! It can be purchased through the publisher (which I've linked below) or through any of the major internet outlets. I will be in the Keweenaw this summer so if any one is in the area, come say hi (and buy a book.... ;-)
Thanks so much Marcy and Mary for these pictures. The first is my favorite and it may be the last picture of the original bridge. Have they said if they will rebuild the bridge with a boring modern bridge or replicate the historic bridge? Whatever, these pictures of the original bridge as to be treasured.

That was supposed to say I hope they replicate it.
