Last week one morning, the sun rose and colored the sky bright red. It was outstanding, so much so that several folks snapped photos. We’re sharing from three photographers here starting with Debbie Jarve who snapped a shot from a building at Michigan Tech in Houghton. Just look at the colors in that early morning sky! You can see more of Debbie’s work at: Debbie Jarve Photography
Next we join Beth Jukuri on a morning ski. She was rewarded with the scene in the second photo, for getting up early and getting out before the sun came up. What a beautiful gift to start her day with.
And last, but not least, Susan Harri captured the sun lighting the horizon from Eagle Harbor. I love how even Lake Superior was colored pinkish by the sun lighting the sky. It really doesn’t get much better than this folks. Susan actually titled this photo, “The Calm Before the Storm” and she was right, we had a dandy storm start up the next day with plenty of lake effect snow and winds.
E. Neil Harri, Susan’s husband, shares a video to prove her point that there was a storm brewing, with this video that he made of the waves coming into Eagle Harbor the following afternoon. Speakers up if you want to hear the wave action, too.

Oh wow! What great shots! That first one blows me away. Susan's "calm before the storm" gave me a chuckle. I think it would be safe to say that about most pictures around here. It seems we've been blessed with many storms. I haven't shoveled this much in about 40 years. But I'm actually enjoying being out there for my hour or two getting some fresh air. And my muscles don't ache as much either. And that video is amazing! For some reason, I didn't expect all of that wave action in that inland bay like that. What great pictures to wake up to. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mary:
The first photo "Sunrise from Michigan Tech" seems to be horizontally flipped based on the vehicle headlights.
I haven't seen the MTU campus in years but the photo appears to be a sunset, not a sunrise.
Regardless..... beautiful pics and a cold looking video!! :=))

Nice pix and chilling video. The first pic looks good to me, but then I am currently flipped horizontally.

I am almost always horizontally flipped, Alex. I agree with Alex that the pic is normal, JT. But the campus has indeed changed. I barely recognized parts of it last time I was there, but then again I bet most of old friends from back then might barely recognize me today.

Hi Mary and all:
I apologize as I am wrong.
Yesterday a CC friend pointed out that the MTU Webcams website has a cam with the identical 'looking East' photo direction, "Campus Aerial".
The photo titled as "Sunrise from Michigan Tech" is indeed showing a sunrise.
