All Deb Simons and Mr. Deb have to do to take a walk in the woods nowadays, is go out the back door and take the trails up to where the old railroad tracks used to be and is now traversed by snowmobiles and ATV’s. The Lake Linden trail is not fixed yet, from the flooding a few years back, but you can do some short jaunts, just not connected to the rest of the trail system yet. Deb mentioned that walking along these trails and paths, reminds her what she loves about this area and brings back memories of childhood days living there as kids. She said most days, they’d be gone all day, when parents didn’t have to worry about where the kids were. We would come home for supper and then head back out to the school playground to play softball. It was a great time and place to grow up.
We join Suyeon Griffin on the other end of this same old railroad track/recreation trail for a hike to the Hungarian Falls. She said it’s a 1.5 mile, moderately trafficked hike. She and her hiking partner started in Lake Linden, behind Louie’s Super Foods and hiked toward the falls area near Hubbell/Tamarack City.

Just a "Heads Up." I just noticed on Marine Traffic the Algoma Conveyer is about to enter the north Portage Entry on her way to Hancock.
I'm making final preparations and provisioning on my "new" travel trailer in order to hopefully head UP north in a few days. ETA and destination campground(s) still up in the air although I'm still hoping to catch some good "color". A few campgrounds are already making preparations to shut down (or at least shut down water) for the season.

Bob and I have snowmobiled this former RR line many times. It's a good one!

I've always wondered what that overpass was over the highway.
Looks like the Algoma Conveyor has stopped and anchored just outside the Upper Portage Entry. Probably waiting for a gate to open up, LOL. I'm guessing she's bringing the annual load of road salt maybe?
It reminded me of all those long times I sat on tarmacs in a plane. The longest one was in Detroit while we watched TWO COMPLETE movies. It was a United flight, diverted from Chicago due to thunderstorms, then needed to land somewhere for fuel. Dozens of other flights did the same thing but United had only one gate in Detroit that we all had to share.

That was really a fun day and it sure brought me back. We were in the woods nearly every day. It was so much fun.
The salt boat is anchored outside of the canal due to rough waters. We stood out there for a really long time waiting for it to enter. It got close but missed its turn or something due to those rough waters and now it's staying put until tomorrow morning some time.

Years ago, you could get a car up there. It's all blocked off now, but I got a picture of a state policeman waving at me...I'm on the trestle with my car, and he's got his hand out the window of the cruiser heading to Lake Linden. Oh the memories is right!!
