Welcome to a new photographer on the Pasty Cam, Patrick Hugener, the person behind Head in the Clouds Photography. He shares a series of photos around the Grand Island, Munising area, showing the ice looking like broken glass. Patrick said his favorite colors are the blues and greens of Lake Superior, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day with beautiful “greens” on the water’s edge around Grand Island, not to mention our newest Pasty Camist’s name.
You can see the East Channel Lighthouse off in the distance in the first three photos and then a great shot in the fourth photo, surrounded by broken slabs of ice. That light sure is close to the Big Lake there, makes me wonder what it was like manning that station during a big storm.
Patrick also shares a video with us today, made on the shores of Lake Superior near Autrain, along M-28. It’s a good warning for folks, as he says: “Every once in awhile I see someone walking around out there. I'm sure they don't realize how dangerous and unstable that environment is. To someone that didn't deal with this ever, it might even look/feel safe to walk out on... I wouldn't.” You can see how the waves are undermining the ice shelf, making it unsafe to be out there on the edge.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day
