We start the week off with photographer Frances Czapski, over at Whitefish Point. She said it so well, that I’m going to let her describe her adventure with the wind, waves and blowing sands:
“I wandered out to the beach on a wavy, windy November day. Thirty-one degrees with a wind chill of about 20 degrees on the shores of Lake Superior at Whitefish Point, Michigan. Discovered some incredible patterns in the sand and watched as the wind whipped sand and snow down the beach in front of me as I walked east. Despite the cold and 20+mph northwest winds, I walked all the way to the end of Whitefish Point. It's not too bad with the wind at your back on the way out there. Then you turn around and brace yourself for the intense walk back into the wind. The waves danced around each other at the tip of the Point and the occasional wave washed far up the beach causing me to back up a few feet into the dry sand. I always keep an eye on Superior and a safe distance from the crashing waves. With the lighthouse light guiding my way back along the beach through the sideways blowing snow, I eventually made it back to the shelter of the dunes and the empty parking lot just as dusk settled in. Nothing like November at the Point!”
With Frances description, you can almost feel the wind and the cold air, let alone see and hear the crashing waves. Luckily we don’t have to leave it all to imagining those sounds, because she also made a video where you can see the wind in action with the sand being blown down the beach and the waves rolling in.
