For kayaking enthusiasts, a perfect day in the Keweenaw is paddling on Lake Superior in perfectly calm waters. That’s what Melanie Hakala Rossi enjoyed on Sunday, with sunshine and 43° temperatures. The Lake was smooth, with little to no wind, so Melanie and friends headed up near Copper Harbor for some paddling. I’m not sure what the water temperature was, but you can see in the first photo, there was still ice on the rock out in the water. The girls did some exploring, stopping in little harbors along their adventure. I bet they did a little agate hunting on the rocky beach in the second photo.
Melanie’s last photo shows the beautiful colors that Lake Superior can be. The Big Lake is not just beautiful blues, but shades of green, too. Melanie commented that she’s only seen water colors like this in the mountain lakes out west. Lake Superior is a lady of many faces, that’s one thing for sure!
Our video excursion is about four friends, kayaking around the Lake to help raise awareness and money to conserve the pristine waters and landscapes they behold, share stories and values of what makes our backyard so important to us. They’ve actually made a 90 minute movie about their adventures. You can find out more about it here: FourTheWater.com.

Hi
Very beautiful. Knowing my limits, I only take my
kayak out on Lake Huron in very calm weather.
