Linda Schneller said she’s always wanted to see a moose, but never expected to see two! She and her hubby, Joe were on their way back from a trip recently, on the Covington Stretch (US141), when they spotted these two on the side of the road. It had been raining, so they both look a bit soggy and Linda said one was a bit bigger than the other, so she was thinking perhaps a mother and last year’s young. They sure are a treat to see in your travels, as they aren’t all that common here in the U.P.

This video was taken along the same stretch of road as Linda’s photos, but it was a few years ago, when this moose was eating, while wading through a marsh there. Such large animals and so interesting to observe.

Wouldn't this sight make your day? Have only seen one briefly West of Marquette.

Jbuck, Yes, this would make my day, haven't been fortunate enough to run across them in my travels, sure would like to!!

I've been fortunate to see quite a number of moose in the UP, although never along main roads and never a bull with antlers. I've only ever seen them in the woods of the Huron Mountains including one (that I believe was a bull) standing in the middle of the Triple A road that absolutely would not move. The only bulls I have seen with antlers were one in New Brunswick, and the other in far north Ontario that has a story I cannot repeat on here... ;-)

Every time I have seen moose in the U.P., it has been on along US 141 south of Hwy 28 (Covington). Supposedly about 400 to 500 of the 500 to 600 or so total are concentrated in Marquette, Baraga and Iron Counties. Of course that's not including the approximately 1,500 technically in Keweenaw County on Isle Royale.

But it's so great to have seen these two up close.
