Judy Byykkonen and one of her four-legged “girls”, Zelda, took a long, slippery, but very scenic hike last week, to view the Houghton Douglass Falls from down below. Judy said she has to leave the older dogs home on longer hikes like this, as Minnie can’t make it and Giselle keeps her company at home, so she won’t feel so left out. According to the Department of Natural Resources, the upper portion of the falls, is closed for construction at this time, but if you hike in like Judy and Zelda did through the woods, following Hammell Creek, you get the best view of the falls. You can see from the first photo, that the initial start is a steep slope. I’m not sure how far a hike in it is, but so worth it for the scenic views along the way, too. It doesn’t look like Judy had snowshoes on, but even this time of year, it might not be a bad idea, so you’re not sinking in the snow. For more information about the project, click here: Department of Natural Resources

An adventure to the falls wouldn’t be complete without a video, so you can experience the sound of the waterfall, too. Luckily, Judy recorded one so we can be there, without the hike to get there.

Quite the adventure. It's adventurous
enough in the summer. Don't think I'd
ever do it in the winter. But Judy
loves it.

I like the hike!
And the video so dear
is music to the ear!
Thanks,Judy…for taking
us along to listen to the
waterfall’s song. .

Beautiful! Brave souls for sure! I checked that
website, and it'll take you to a pic of the falls
with GREEN around it!

In the first photo. It looks like Judy has her
spikes on.
