With the amounts of snow we’ve been getting from the storms lately, the deer have for the most part moved to the “deer yards” where they get fed by the local Sportsman clubs to help them make it through the rough winter weather. Many of them gather in the Gay area, where Jean Dessellier photographed them recently. They seem to be content hanging out there and they’re safer there, since the traffic is slowed down when folks drive through the quiet streets of the little town.

I snapped that bottom photo a few days ago, when I was on my daily walk. That’s my hubby, Jim, starting out on his walk, coming toward me, with a flock of turkeys following him. They help themselves to our hanging bird feeders, by hitting their head on the bottom of the feeder to knock seeds onto the ground to eat. Jim also gives them some vegetable scraps and whole corn, so when he goes for his walk, they follow him down the road hoping for more handouts...ha, ha. He’s like the Pied Piper of Sawmill Road. I wish he’d lure them somewhere else, because once the snow melts the poop is going to be out of control. Hopefully they’ll head back into the woods by then.

Jeff Dennis also gets deer at their cottage in Little Traverse Bay and he recorded this video of them recently. He told me that the numbers of deer have really increased in the past couple weeks, just about the time that the deer we fed on our property left for the winter. We’re hoping they went out to Jeff’s as there were a couple real small ones we were feeding, along with their mother. Jeff also said that the turkeys they had out there have left. We’re thinking we must have gotten his turkeys in exchange for our deer!

is just awesome...and whatta number that's
following him. Does he ever get attacked? You see

And that video is just gorgeous...I love it!

Did anyone get to see the Blood Moon last night? I
checked different webcams I have of this area, and
it was cloudy...my cousin from Detroit got a
beautiful little vid on her phone she sent me...

I always love deer pictures. They
are such beautiful animals. I hope
the ones who visit us all summer
and fall survived the winter.

The picture of Jim with his pets
gives me a good chuckle.

Nice pix, dear Jean!
The first one looks like they
are in jail for passing a few
counterfeit bucks.
Good video too!
