Nancy Haun is well known for being a railfan, with hundreds of great photos and videos from the L’Anse area comings and goings of the Canadian National trains. Today’s shots and video chronicle drama on the rails, a common occurrence between the trains and deer. You may be wondering if the train stopped or was the deer just fast enough to beat the train...Nancy said the deer was lucky this time and many are hit by trains, but here on the L’Anse Hill, the train goes so slow that the deer luck out and make it across for the most part. Somone else commented that the L’Anse Hill grade is steep and the trains do not stop on that grade unless they have to. They normally only run at 10 mph in that area, so it’s unlikely the deer will get hit there. That’s a relief to know.

For a real time view of the drama, watch Nancy’s video. You’ll be able to see just how slow the Canadian National train is going on that steep grade and how that deer just sprinted across the tracks with time to spare (just after 4:42 on the timeline). Whew!!

Cool pics and video!
And a bonus; A deer playing chicken
with a train on the tracks at -2:00 minutes.
It amazes me that one engine can pull
all that weight up that hill…That’s power.

From Uncle Chuck, (I sent him an email a while
back):

Hi Donna, sorry for the delay. I’m in the
hospital. Currently the infection is worsen in my
foot. They are doing surgery tomorrow, Friday, to
remove the back of my fifth metatarsal that is in
the middle of my left foot on the side. If you
could let Mary and everybody know that, I sure
would appreciate it. I am pretty much under the
weather right now. I’ll give you all updates when
I get out of here, but I don’t know when that’s
gonna be. I’m so depressed, thanks for reaching
out, though.

Love these pictures, but the deer
had me anxiety ridden, lol. Sure
am glad it made it across.

Sorry about you being back in the
hospital. I thought about you many
times, and about reaching out, but
I've been down with RSV since last
Thursday. I don't wish it on
anybody. But it's better than what
you're going through. Praying that
this finally gets taken care of. I
thought about you going into that
hyperbaric chamber after that
little boy died. I hope you're
finished with that part of your
treatment. Praying that the
surgery goes well. Anybody would
be depressed. Hugs to you.
