Nancy Haun has been busy tracking and following the Canadian National trains lately and captured some interesting shots of them in various places around the L’Anse area. My favorite is the one of the CN crossing US 41, partly because it shows the size of those engines compared to the cars waiting. Nancy commented that she’s always amazed at the size of them, too. Her next two photos, she said they were “tied down” in L’Anse. I had to look that one up again...”tied down” means waiting and not moving, like waiting for a crew change or something similar. The remaining two photos I just found neat, as I always like to see them on curvy tracks for some reason and then in different locations that I haven’t seen them before. Let’s face it, I’m kind of a railfan myself.

Nancy also shares a video with us that she recorded on November 1st when some areas here UP North got measurable snow. I’m going to share what she said about the video, as it’s a great description of how this video came about: ”Go to Mass or get video of the CN? I did the right thing and went to Mass. The CN was gone when I got back to L'Anse, but I took a chance and went up to Herman only to see them rounding the curve to the rock cut. I took another chance and hopped in the truck and drove the 3 miles to Summit. Parked the truck, grabbed the camera and crossed the tracks to get the train rounding the curve. Whew I made it! Shaky but I got it!”

Brilliantly colored set…thank you Nancy!
While others are a hunting we will go for deer;
Nancy’s a Haun-ting trains for our delight.

Great pictures. I especially love
the third and fourth ones with the
tiny bit of snow on the ground.
It's so pretty. The video was good
too.

I grew up with a CN line nearly in my backyard.
Back then it was the Illinois Central before the CN
bought them out..
