Fall is a good time to head out on a Keweenaw adventure drive. Kathy Erkkila Ptaszek did just that recently, making a stop by the Tobacco River to check out how the river is rushing off into Lake Superior. She was not disappointed, as you can see the river is running well, even under cloudy skies.
From there her next stop was by Rice Lake, where she captured the cloud covered skies with a bright spot where the sun was trying to peak through. Someone commented that it was a “spirit in the sky”. Rice Lake shoreline is filled with the reeds in Kathy’s fourth photo, they form somewhat of a border around the lake. She also found a nice patch of Winterberries, also known as Michigan Holly. Kathy said the adventure was “pretty as a picture” and I totally agree!
Speaking of “pretty as a picture”, we have a compilation of shots from Isle Royale National Park, Mott Island web camera of the Northern Lights on November 8th and 9th for today’s video. Don Afman (known as D.A. (Midwested) here on the Pasty Cam), made this compilation from multiple still image captures at 5 minute intervals. He said the lights lasted all the way from dusk until dawn. I love the loon soundtrack he added, too!

On a side; Sunday’s Pasty Cam included posts from “mickill mouse (Ram4)”, has anyone heard anything about her?

Haven't heard from her in a very long time. I wonder what she's up to lately.

I really enjoyed these pictures. And the video with the loons was wonderful. I could listen to loons all day. The northern lights were awesome also.

I love the Michigan Holly. When I was healthy, I picked so much sea glass out at the Tobacco River. There's a lot out there.
That video is beyond awesome. Full screen is a must...it is so beautiful...I look at the webcams out there now and again...you can see stars too. Here in Houghton...you see nothing. The light pollution is just a shame. I'd love for Houghton and Hancock to turn off the lights one night for one hour, on a clear night....let us see the universe!

The sky in the vid is filled with stars, and how they and the lights bounce off the water, is SO stunning...unreal.

The Northern Lights should keep showing off throughout next year as we have entered the peak of the 11 year cycle.
Donna, I took your advice and just ate a Culver's Double Butter Burger (no pickle). Delicious indeed! I think it's not just the red onions but also something in the seasoning, maybe garlic?
Here is how the Tobacco River looked after the huge flooding of 2018. I took these about a week after the terrible devastation.

Beautiful pics Kathy, same for you D.A. as well with Donna's yesterday!!
Culvers is pretty good, although I think their patties are a bit thin. D.A. you're right about the fish sandwich though, it's one of the best for fast food. Although... I'd be going to the Depot on a regular basis if I lived U.P. there in the Lake Linden area for sure. Their burgers are great I think.
I miss the Tobacco River, only 9 miles to LB!! around the corner to the Dockside Resort and camping at Bobby Kauppi's. and in my earlier years.... walking distance to the Gay Bar, pizza, shots & beers and a great Jukebox at one time a bit ago. lol Made for some interesting rides back to Little Betsy, hey it was college years, and the snowbanks acted like bumpers, JK.

I'm with you, U.C. I do love the flavor of Culver's burgers but they're so thin. And the fish sandwich is delicious. Their French fries are so darn good.

They've had a double as long as i can remember, D.A.

U.C. Snowbanks as bumpers...ain't that the truth...been there, done that...way too many times. I drove a VW and it got picked up and moved so many times....loved my bug...
U.C., do you remember when they had all the guns hanging from the ceiling at the Gay Bar? Hit that place MANY times....and they had that magpie in a cage there??
