Laurie Bashaw was recently down on the waterfront at Marquette Harbor and spotted this regal Eagle giving her the “old eagle eye”. She said now that the leaves are down for the most part, they hope to be able to see more of these majestic birds in the trees. Her second photo looks like it could be the Menominee and the Olive L. Moore tug, but I’m not certain on that, so correct me if I’m wrong, please. Then her third view from the walk-about has Lake Superior waves, washing ashore... there’s always something calming about watching waves or just the Big Lake in general, unless of course she’s all riled up in a frenzy.

The bottom two photos are from Laurie’s son, Eric Bashaw, taken with a game camera on his property in the Marquette area. Seeing as it’s opening day of rifle deer season, it’s a good time to remind all the hunters to make sure you know your target before you shoot. These moose visitors are not fair game during the hunt. And make sure you’re watching around you when you’re walking through the woods... I’d hate to encounter that fella in the bottom photo, as he sure doesn’t look real friendly!

MI Playground shares an interesting video here today. The lead-in says: “Have you ever wondered how freighters get supplies for sailing on the Great Lakes. Obviously they need food and other supplies on the ships but how do they get there? Well, we went to Soo Marine Supply Company to head out on the supply boat, the Ojibway, to make a delivery to the John G. Munson as she exited the Soo Locks making her way through the St. Marys River.”

Love it all!!!
The rapture in #1,
The massive floating behemoth in #2,
The inviting shoreline in #3
and the massive walking behemoths in #4 & 5.
An informative video too…something
that I’ve never considered before;
the efficiency of supplying the crew
with their needs.

Hi
Great pictures. I have seen Bald Eagles, but never a
moose. One migrates through Ann Arbor, one does not.

There was a segment on "Michigan Under the Radar"
that showed the mail boat near Detroit going out to
the freighters. But the supply run on the video was
new to me. It is more efficient that the ship
pulling up to a dock and loading up.

Such great pictures. As much as I
love pictures of the lake and
freighters, I must admit I love
the moose photos. I guess that's
because you rarely see one. Very
cool and exciting for Eric.

Those moose pics are phenomenal. So is the Eagle. I'm not a boat nerd. I'll admit it. BUT, I did watch the Edmund Fitzgerald ceremony and learned a lot about the Shipping Industry. That was so cool.

Michigan is the ONLY state with a floating Post Office. (how awesome is that!) Check it out here:
Michigan's Floating Post Office

Great vid...

Did I say rapture???
Raptor, even. Although the photo of
the eagle is rather heavenly.
