I’m not positive, but I think Jeff Dennis was the lead for this adventure. Normally Fritz is in charge, but since they weren’t kayaking, he had to take a backseat this time, instead of in front on the bow. They stopped to check out the Devil’s Washtub near Copper Harbor. I don’t know where the following originated, but I found it on the Michigan Technological University Keweenaw Geoheritage webpage, that it is also called “Sloshing Whatnot”. Anyway, it is a great example of a Blowhole within the Copper Harbor Conglomerate. If you stop there on a day with good size waves, it’s pretty amazing to see. There is an arch that you can swim under on a calm day and go right into the washtub itself, but that involves jumping from the rocks, so unless you’re a good swimmer and jumper, I wouldn’t advise it. If you plan to stop there, please be mindful that it is private property and is located opposite the Dapple Gray B&B about two miles from Copper Harbor.
The day Jeff, Chris and Fritz stopped there recently was wavy, so they enjoyed a bit of wave action sloshing into the washtub, which we get to see, too! If you’d like to watch a drone video, in addition to Jeff’s video, click here: Drone video by Steve Brimm

…and if the Tide comes in, it’s a good stain remover. The first pic reminded me of a mountain goat standing on the side of a cliff. And a swell video too! I imagined myself sitting there where Chris was, just enjoying the surroundings. Thanks for that moment of peace and serenity.

Way cool...I've seen that thing dry...the lake was low and the washtub was filled with rocks.
I watched Steve's vid...beautiful. Lake Superior...holy wha when she starts rocking....she's going to win!
