Camping and hiking at the Porkies (Porcupine Mountain) is not for the faint of heart. Laurie Bashaw and her hubby Ed were recently there and hiked to the Trap Falls, which also happens to be on the North Country Trail. Laurie said it wasn’t too bad a hike, although a “root witch” got her and down she went. She ended up with a dandy scrape on her shin and said it hurt like a bugger, but all in all it was a good hike. It sure looks like some interesting scenery along the way.

The Trap falls is a peaceful little cascade and makes the hike worth the trip. From what I’ve read and then looking at Laurie’s photos, it’s a tucked away trail that feels somewhat remote and on the right day, you can feel like you’re the only ones there. Perfect getaway!

UP North Overland takes us on an overlanding adventure in the Keweenaw Peninsula, as they explore the wild beauty of the U.P., traversing rugged terrains, discovering hidden gems and taking in the untamed wonders of this beautiful region.

Very cool pictures, and everybody
should hit the Porkies at least
once in their life. There's just
so much to see.

The Porkies are high on my favorite places UP there. Beautiful pictures - have never noticed a tree with patches of moss like that. Interesting! One September in the Porkies i was going to hike a trail alone until i read the sign saying NOT to hike alone because of the bears. Decided to enjoy the paths around the Presque River and the waterfalls where there were a few people.

I've never seen a moss covered tree either..that's
a beauty tho....I've always loved moss. It's just
beautiful and oh so soft.....

Beautiful pics...and yes, you need to see the
Porkies at least once. Thank the Lord I did when I
could...One of them was with the CC Mental Health
clients. I LOVED that job...I did a lot of jobs,
and that one was my all time favorite.

Beautiful pics and an excellent video!! What a great journey they
had while rustic camping!!

Liked those pics of the tree moss and fungi, I’ll bet a little of that
moss & fungi would make up a tasty soup- eh Alex!! ;-)
