Bob Gilreath has had his bird feeders, including the hummingbird feeder on his deck, down for a number of weeks, waiting for the annual bear visitors to go back to the woods. He decided last week to try to resume feeding the hummingbirds, hoping the bear was gone for the summer, but just in case, he put his game camera on a post so if the bear came back he’d get some good photos. Bob said this is the year old cub with scars on both sides of his rump. His Momma sits in the shadows and watches him to be sure he’s safe. Someone commented that its a little close to the back door, to which Bob replied, “Yea, but he can’t open it and hasn’t learned to ring the doorbell yet!” Guess the sugar water will have to be put away for a few more weeks now.

Alexis Dahl is taking us out to Drummond Island looking for fossils. She thought every rock she touched at this beach had a more than 400-million-year-old fossil in it. Alexis covers two stories from the adventure, one about gorgeous Fossil Ledges and another about accidentally encountering one of the rarest habitats in the world. Alexis thanks UP Travel for supporting this video. Now lets get going...

We had the same thing happen with
our bears Bob. Right up on the
deck next to the door. Only we
were in the kitchen window
watching them about 3 feet away
from us. So cool. After that the
bird feeders got put away. But
they're still in the neighborhood
all the time. These are some great
shots!!

Love it! And Love Alexis vids.

When seeing the first pic, I thought I was
looking at a bear-affair with that pole,
but then I saw the feeder and realized
what was happening; A feeder greeter.
Another cool video made interesting
by a really cool story teller. Drummond
Island was once inhabited by Domino’s
Pizza founder Tom Monaghan, as well.

Hi
Alex, Tom Monaghan had a golf course, a hotel, and a
group of cabins on Drummond Island. One time I and
other Nature Conservancy donors spent a weekend at
the cabin complex. I'll say in passing that Michelob
and s'mores were an odd combination at the campfire.
We did visit several preserves, including Maxton
Plains. Like Alexis, I did think it looked a lot
like an old parking lot. We never went to the fossil
ledges, though.
