We’re still touring near Rockland, with Deb & Ron Simons today. This stop was at the Keweenaw National Historic Park Heritage Site– Old Victoria. According to their NPS.gov webpage, “Log cabins built at the Victoria Mine in 1899 served as homes to waves of copper miners and their families. Today visitors to Old Victoria can explore four historically furnished homes and hear stories about the men, women and children who once lived there. The Keweenaw Heritage Sites are official partners of Keweenaw National Historical Park, but are privately owned. Each site interprets and preserves an important aspect of the area's copper mining history and provides a unique visitor experience. Please contact individual sites for more information:” Old Victoria

The Porcupine Mountains shares an Old Victoria video here today, with the following from their lead-in to viewing: “Take a step back in time and witness the way the miners once lived at Old Victoria Restoration. There once stood over 60 cabins but the remaining four hold memories and artifacts from everyday life on this little homestead. See how they used to enjoy music, sew their own clothes, and even how they used to make cinnamon rolls in a wood oven. Touring these cabins is great for the whole family!”

Such a neat little place. We
wanted to explore but were so
bitten up while at the Dam by the
nasty gnats. Next time we'll go
when it's not so buggy. It's an
awesome place to explore and spend
a really fun day.

Nice pix Deb… so many places to see
and explore UP there. I’ve been to
Porcupine Mountains a dozen times
and never new those cabins were there.
Thanks for the tour while enduring the bites.
You’re still a tasty dish on the menu.

That is such a wonderful place to visit. Grands
had a stereo like that one. And that carpet loom
brings back SO many memories....Grandpa worked the
loom. All Summer, the rummage sales provided
clothes that were pitched into the basement...in
Winter, Gram would cut clothes into strips. Us
kids rolled them into balls and/or filled the
shuttles...and when Gramps had a roll of carpets,
he'd cut them off and bring them upstairs, and us
kids would wait for Grandpa to cut the warp
between the rugs, and we'd tie knots....and they'd
sell them roadside all summer. EXCELLENT memories~

Victoria is a beautiful area. Good photos Deb. Last time I was there an early, light snowfall further decorated things:
