Deb Simons and her hubby Ron have guests over for lunch, snacks and dinner three or four times a day. Their guests are the cute little deer family that visited last season and just came back again last week. Deb said they’re usually there late at night, but this mom and her little bucks have been coming several times during the day now, too. She mentioned that mom’s tummy is getting big, though, so Deb figures the bucks will only be with her for another month or two, but she hopes the mother will let the little bucks continue to come around, still. How fun to have them coming in so close for photos like this.

You know with spring arriving and the deer coming back around, ticks are going to be resurfacing, too. If you find any ticks on you or your pets, consider contacting the Michigan Tech Crowdsourcing Project. You can drop off the sample to one of two drop boxes at the U.J. Noblet Forestry Building’s main entrance and on the first floor of the Great Lakes Research Center. For more information click here: MTU Tick Crowdsourcing Project and also here: MTU Tick-Talk Monitoring

Today’s video takes us to Mont Ripley for the highlights of their Ripley Slush Pit that took place recently. Check out the brave skiers and snowboarders who took part in the event!

We just love this little deer
family. It was fun to watch the
little one's buttons start forming
last summer, preparing them for
their beautiful, velvety antlers.
They're a little more spooky than
they were last year, but that'll
come. We've added another mom and
her little buck now. They get
spooked easily. They're just so
much fun to watch. We do it for,
sometimes an hour at a time. In a
few months, maybe we'll get to see
her little fawns again. But then
she'll scare the bucks away, and
we so enjoy then.

Those skiers are braver than I.

Very nice, Deb! Do you have use doggy bags in
the summer?
And I wonder when the State will impose a
Tick-Tax on Tick-Talk Monitoring.
Gutsy video. I don’t see a warming station
anywhere for those who fall in. That would
be one cold ride down the hill for Jack and Jill.

Button bucks...are they cute. I was so Blessed for
a few years to do the same. I fed half of Baraga
County and just loved it so much....I know where
your heart is Deb, and how full it gets.

Great Vid...those kids look like they are having a
blast!!

AND....CONGRATULATIONS to the Ishpeming Hematite
Girl's BBall...

High School
The Ishpeming High School girls basketball team
claimed its first state title Saturday, with a
decisive 73-54 victory over Kingston. The
Hematites fell behind early, and trailed 22-11 at
the end of the first quarter. They rallied in the
second quarter, though, and took a one-point lead
into halftime. In the second half, sophomore
Jenessa Eagle ignited an Ishpeming surge, scoring
15 of her 27 points in the third quarter. Jenna
Maki, the school’s all-time leading scorer, added
25 in her final game. It’s the first girls
basketball title for any U.P. school since 2015,
when Calumet and Saint Ignace won championships.

U.P. POWER!!

Donna, if you enlarge the second
photo, you can see their little
buttons. So darn cute. During the
summer, they start getting almost
friendly. We just love them.

Hi
This has nothing to do with the photos or video,
but there was an article in my local newspaper
(the Jackson Citizen Patriot) giving a shout-out
to the Calumet Electronics Corp. It seems that
they are the first in the United States to build a
component (called an organic substrate) of
semiconductor chips. "We did it", said Todd
Brassard, vice president of Calumet Electronics.
"A bunch of Michiganders figured out how to do
something that the rest of the country couldn't
figure out how to do". They won a grant from the
Department of Defense that will partially fund
their plan to build a factory in the Keweenaw.

No slush pit for me!
Of course, I can't move fast enough anymore.

I was waiting till the end,
hoping for spectators to turn it into a Mosh Pit.

Based on all the frozen webcams & 32 degree temps,
it looks like a bit of an ice storm is happening?

Deb, so glad your buddies are back! They know who cares for them!! Thanks for sharing.

And thanks Kathyrn for sharing the good news about Calumet Electronics! I remember how much they helped during covid and found this about the company back in 2020:

Calumet Electronics is a printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer located in the remote region of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Now, the company and its employees are working hard and playing a critical role in the fight against COVID-19. While Calumet’s 290 dedicated employees produce over 500,000 printed circuit boards every year for the American medical device industry, they are working around the clock to meet the supply demands of healthcare, such as ventilators.

Great looking pics the deer look healthy and it’s really a good thing
what you and Ron are doing Deb! The video looks like a lot of fun, I
don’t think I would’ve ever tried that, though, although college and
whiskey makes one do what they ordinarily wouldn’t do lol. This
morning is the first I felt somewhat human. I’m not gonna lie. There
were a couple times I was wondering if I was gonna pull out of it.
Steady as she goes I guess. That company up in Calumet is big
time and doing marvelous things for healthcare And in general.
Still have my sites set on the UP For this summer, and I won’t slow
down for dead raccoons or joggers! Lol Bobby Bare!
