It seems we’ve had a beach week here on the Pasty Cam, which is a bit unusual in the month of March and one to mark in the record books for sure. Last week, the WIND (Women In New Directions) group got together for a walk on the shores at Bucky’s (a.k.a Calumet Waterworks Park) where they were enjoying each other’s company, making a piece of rock art in the sand and catching a sunset in the bargain. Judy Byykkonen shares a few photos of their time on the shores of Lake Superior where at that point there was still some ice in places, like in that first photo, looking a bit like another planet and maybe a spaceship that landed there. I really love their rock art, with each successive row a different color rock and their group name in smaller white rocks. Very creative!

We’re taking another walk, this one with Wandering Walks of Wonder...a walking tour of Houghton.
It is a nicely done, just over fourteen minute video, with interesting tidbits about the town and a look at the buildings, along with a walk on the waterfront. It was recorded before the removal of the parking deck, but you still get a nice look at the city of Houghton.

Check out the WIND facebook page - what a wonderful,
creative group of women! Wish I had a WIND group
here!

I've gone to a couple of the WIND
ladies crafting evenings. It's
nice to have women to hang with. I
wanted to go to this one, but it
was the same day we went driving
around the Keweenaw looking for
waterfalls and driftwood. I was
worn out by that time. Looks like
they had a great time.

an awesome group of ladies!

I really love the vid...excellent stroll!

I have a quick update on our buddy, Uncle Chuck. He just got back home from the hospital last night and is resting up, trying to regain some strength. Covid really did a number on him...he's really tired and weak right now, but he says remember...Helsinki's Booming!
Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Way to go,UC…onward and upward!
They can take ya down, but they can’t
keep ya down.
And these patterns have been showing
up all over the globe. They suspect
extraterrestrials and women are
from Venus.

Best wishes to you UC.....get UP strong!

Thanks for the update Mary! Sending all those prayers to UC to beat the covid and get back on his feet SOON!

U.C.,
Best wishes to get you back to full strength. Take your time but don't take things too easy. Tolerate as much exercise as you can.

I really enjoyed the walking tour down Shelden Ave, although none of the maps seem to call it that nowadays. It's labelled either College Ave or Joseph H. Meagher Memorial Hwy or simply 41. I was looking in the video for the building that housed a store I used to shop at for gifts for my Mother. It was a really nice gift shop, similar to Copper World today in Calumet. I think it started with an "H" (Hammonds?) and was on the north side towards the west end. Anyway, every time I went home I would bring a gift made from copper, that and my laundry of course.

The Big Lake is back in business. Earlier this evening I watched the Arthur M. Anderson leave it's winter port, Duluth for the first time after it's long slumber. I wasn't thinking quickly enough to record the event, but it's horn and that of the Duluth bridge was heart warming.

Awww....UC...please take good care....That stuff
ain't no joke...Get better and get U.P. here!

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Sunday, March 24, 2024 - 10:45 am:

Hi everyone thanks for the well wishes. Looking in on what I
missed. The pictures are always beautiful so are the videos. Ron
you look like you’re doing really good there at brunette Park
carrying that Driftwood also it looks like there’s plenty of beach
there now. This Covid episode, on top of my other ailments really
set me back the lightheaded and lack of strength is amazing but
I’m working on it and DA you’re right gotta continue to strengthen
my wind and stay at it. I’m hoping the setback doesn’t delay
anything in terms of being able to head up north this year , again
thanks everyone for the well wishes and concerns and prayers I
really do appreciate you all.

Happy to hear from you UC. Covid
is nothing to mess with. An
acquaintance in Minnesota has had
after effects for 3 months now. So
take good care and do what they
tell you to do. Prayers sent your
way.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Sunday, March 24, 2024 - 04:59 pm:

UC! So glad to see your update. You have been thru a lot and covid on top of it is brutal. Praying your leg is now all healed and you'll be back at it soon!
