When Suyeon Griffin hiked out to Hunter’s Point this past week, she found snow still on the shoreline, along with ice covered rocks and ice balls washed up on the shore. I’m sure this is partly because that side of the park doesn’t get as much of the sunshine to warm it up and melt the snow and ice there. Suyeon also stopped at the Copper Harbor Lighthouse lookout, across from Fort Wilkins for a look and she spotted a kayaker in the water, just beyond the ice on the edge of the shoreline. Made me wonder if that might be Jeff and Fritz out there.

The last stop Suyeon made was at Fort Wilkins, where she captured a beautiful shot, showing the sun shining brightly over Lake Fanny Hooe. No kayaking or fishing there yet, as there’s still ice on the lake. But if the above normal temperatures continue, it won’t be long and you’ll see folks casting their lines and paddling their kayaks around.

MI Playground has a report for us about the Soo Locks opening early this season. Looks like the first boat to go through will be on March 22nd, three days earlier than the regular opening of March 25th.

Nice pictures. We drove around the
Keweenaw yesterday, and the snow
on the Gay side of the lake was
almost non-existent. Then when we
got to the other side, that wasn't
the case. Made for some very cool
pictures. I almost missed the
kayaker. Love the Lake Fanny Hooe
picture. Lake Medora was pretty
much ice covered also, as was the
Lac La Belle bay. Didn't get
pictures of those.

Thanks Suyeon, for the great pictures! Beautiful!

Wow, along with all the spectacular photos yesterday there was a lot of news!

First of all, many prayers for healing coming your way UC! Glad you are right where you need to be to get the healing going in the right direction.

It's so unfortunate the State decided to do all the upgrade projects this Summer - right after a terrible Winter season for the Yoop. And the Tip of the Mitt is struggling and there are multiple closures there too. The businesses which depend on tourists sure don't need this!!!

Very nice pics and it’ll be great to see Freighters out and about
again
very soon.

Jbuck, thanks for the well wishes.

Did anyone else notice the polar bear hiding in the snow in the top
pick kinda off to the left? lol Boy, these pain meds are great!:-)
