Talk about being in the right place at the right time... Fritz the Wonderdog, must have gotten word that the Algoma Innovator was coming to Hancock to deliver road salt for the winter here in the Keweenaw, so he got Jeff & Chris Dennis out in the kayaks to capture the arrival. Fritz did a good job supervising the photo taking (the first three photos) and he even had Jeff record a video for us to see it in action.

The bottom three photos come to us from a new photographer on the Pasty Cam, UP.PIX. They were out with their drone capturing the arrival of the Algoma, also. So neat to see it from the air as it travels down the Portage Canal. I wonder if they saw the Dennis family in their kayaks. Jeff said he heard the drone above them.

Lucky us, getting to see it UP close and from overhead, too. Thanks, Jeff, Chris, Fritz and UP.PIX!

Interesting shots - upclose from Fritz and crew and then long distance overhead from UP.PIX. The Algoma Innovator looks a little rough - must have been thru some rough service lately!

jbuck, I think the Algoma Innovator needs a new paint job. Hopefully any parts we can't see are good enough that she's seaworthy.

Very nice shots by Jeff and Chris. Fritz seemed a little nervous in that video. I love the drone shots, also. And I was thinking the same as Jbuck about the shape that ship is in. I think it needs some tlc. Thanks for sharing.

We were at Brunette Park that day having a wonderful time and taking lots of pictures. That lakeshore has changed so much. You can now walk a really long way on nice sugary sand. Here's a link to my page for anybody who hasn't been there in a long while. I'm not used to doing this so I hope it worked. Mary had a hard time choosing between these and the Tobacco River ones. In the end she chose the Tobacco River ones because of her love for that spot. You can't argue with her reasoning as it's another must stop for us, too.

Thanks Deb! Looks like we need Mary's intervention, this is the message that came up:

Actually, that message comes up when the post on Facebook is not Public. When it's set to "Friends", only folks that are friends with you can see the posts. I'll let Deb know to change her setting. :-)

And they are just gorgeous pics Deb....and you are
not kidding..it's been decades since I've been out
there and the beach is certainly different!

Mary...."Fritz, the Wonderdog"....the PERFECT name
for that lil furball!

Fun pix and video!
And nice pix, Deb.
I’m glad you and Ron are enjoying your retirement.
Looks like no duck for Fricassee-Fritz that day.

HEY FRIDAY WITH FRITZ!!! TWO THUMBS UP FRITZ!! lol

Great shots of the Algoma, I had heard that the
last few times she had gone thru the Locks, she
had a big ol sign hanging off her bow that read:
STUDENT DRIVER, GET OUT OF THE WAY!! and now we
can see why, I hope they bought the 5-gallon
buckets of paint, she's going to need plenty!!:=))

I don't do FB, they wouldn't open for me. But yes,
I do recall seeing plenty of beautiful beach when
we were there this summer.

Tentative departure and take off for the Yoop with
my pal Marty... 10/8 hoping nothing stops this but
there's plenty that could!

Have a great weekend all!!

Thanks, Donna and Alex. UC, you don't have
to do FB to get in there. It's just like any
other website. I'm surprised you can't open
it. Sorry. But at least you've been there to
see it.

jbuck & U.C.,

The INNOVATOR is only 6 years old!
Maybe it's all that salt transported every year?

These pics always remind me of the short time I spent working & sailing on an older ship in the fleet, ALGOMA ENTERPRISE

By Bill Denning (Parpagayo) on Sunday, September 24, 2023 - 11:18 am:

Two things that I noticed. First, Chris clearly had Fritz's safety well planned, as he was wearing a life preserver and had a tether, in case he fell overboard.

Second, the bright orange lifeboat on the Algoma is all set to drop into the water in case of an emergency, but how would you get on board before releasing it, especially in a storm?
