If you’re a regular viewer, you probably know who Uncle Chuck is, well, today’s Pasty Camist is his beautiful bride, Vicki Paulson. Chuck’s nephew Ben, his wife Beth and their kids, Jack and Allie, joined Vicki on Labor Day to walk across the Mackinac Bridge. BUT... they didn’t just walk the five miles across the Big Mac, they were “Double Crossers” who walked over and back for a total of ten miles! Chuck told me this was the highlight of Vicki’s summer and she was quite excited as they were driving UP North for the event.

IMHO, the best photo today is the bottom one of Vicki with the “Double Crossers U Turn Here” sign. What a fun handle to give those folks who walked both ways and what an accomplishment for Vicki and the gang, completing the ten mile walk. It was reported an estimated 35,000 people walked this year, which was the largest group since 2016, when 45,000 walked the Bridge. Vicki made a short video of the walk showing the walkers and the sunrise, too!

I love the large flag the Bridge Authority hangs from the tower and how appropriate for today’s Pasty Cam to dedicate in memory and in honor of those who lost their lives 22 years ago on 9/11, those who were injured, those who lost loved ones and those who stepped up to help when disaster struck. We Remember... We will Never Forget.

Great job, Vicki! These pictures are
phenomenal! I love the flag pictures (yes,
fitting for today). And that sunrise is
gorgeous. The only thing missing was a
freighter. How exciting for you! I always
planned to walk over but the time never came
and now my knee prevents me from doing it.
So we have to rely on people like you to
bring us along. Thanks for the walk.

Very nice pix! But I didn’t see UC. Probably monitoring home base
with a cold one in hand, no doubt. :-)

It was a great trip up and back. Great to see Ben
and Beth and the kids and yes, Vic really wanted
to do this. Glad we made it happen. If I could
have been at the end of the bridge when the family
returned, I would have had the ROCKY theme song
playing for them!! :=))

Alex, after I dropped them off in total organized
chaos, I went back to the hotel to relax. I did
have a cold one in hand too.... Cherry Coke Zero!!
Caffeine was needed more than ever that early
morning after still being in the Motor City at 7
PM the night before. lol

Mary thanks for posting this.

This is something that I have always wanted to do. Since this year is the 20th anniversary of my 45th birthday I said to myself, "You better get doing it Vicki!" So glad I did. I enjoyed it immensely with good company :-)

Hi
Congratulations to Vicki and all of the other
"double-crossers". I went to the middle and turned
back to the south side.

My favorite bridgewalk was in 2007, on the 50th
anniversary of the bridge being officially opened. I
was able to go at a relaxed pace, the weather was
nice, and a freighter went under the bridge while I
was looking down on it.

Way to go, Queen Vicki…you go girl!

Great job Nurse Vicki! Beautiful morning and beautiful pictures! Back in the day when i did the Bridge walk (twice) there was no such thing as double crossers! If you were in Mackinaw City you took a school bus to St. Ignace and walked South. Do they still give out the certificates?

Yes, remembering everyone lost on September 11, 2001. Thanks Mary for including that.
