Nancy Haun and her hubby took an ATV ride recently and stopped by the Slate River for a snack. They took a walk along the river, the trail there is the old Iron Range & Huron Bay Railroad Grade. Nancy said it washed out years ago and is not traveled very much. She was positioning herself to try to get a good shot of the river and much to her surprise, out of the river climbed two animals. She wasn’t sure immediately, but her hubby confirmed what she thought, they were otters. What a thrill it was for them, as you don’t see them around all that often.

Nancy was able to get a video of two of them, but there were actually three that they saw running up into the woods. Sure is a fun capture and just by being in the right place, at the right time and having her camera ready.

My heart was beating out of my chest while I was watching that.
I never knew that they lived in the UP, but I always suspected that
they otter be somewhere.

You were rewarded for taking the path less traveled! And after several reports of attacks by river otters this Summer, good thing you didn't go for a dip. Who would have thought with such appealing little critters? So interesting to watch them from afar anyway!
