Beth Jukuri sure knows how to live! She recently had some great summer time fun with her grandkids, from refreshing drinks at their waterhole, to painting rocks, playing on the beach, rolling down hills, creating art projects and enjoying the setting sun after a waterfront concert in Houghton. This is the stuff that memories are made of and what summer fun for the littles should be. Beth’s grandchildren will have so many memories to reminisce about later in life, about all the fun summer things they did with grandma. She’s teaching them about the finer things in life that don’t cost a fortune and more importantly about how to use their imagination to create art and have a great time doing so. Yep, Beth sure knows how to live and she’s passing that knowledge on to her next generations. I love it!

Alexis Dahl gives us a lesson today on Michigan Yooper Stones and why this Magma still glows. The lead-in to her video says: The rocky beaches around Lake Superior are famous for their glowing Yooper stones (or emberlite, glowdalite, or Yooperlite® when they're sold by a specific business). But where did they come from, and what makes them glow? I met up with an expert to learn more.
Many special thanks to John Dean for taking me sodalite hunting in the Keweenaw Peninsula, and for sharing all of his stories! Additional thanks to Dr. Laurel Woodruff, who reviewed the section on the Coldwell Complex for accuracy. And of course, my deepest gratitude to Sam and Chris for making this video possible.”

What fun for those kiddos (and grandma).
Sometimes I wish my grands were still that
little, but we had a lot of great times too.
Hopefully they'll remember those days
fondly. And just because they're mostly
grown, it doesn't mean you still can't make
memories. Our oldest granddaughter is coming
to visit next week. I'm sure we'll find
things to do. Beth's grands will always
remember these days. Great fun looking at
these pictures.

Just returned from about 10 days in the UP, most of it in the Copper Harbor area. Naturally had a wonderful time. Made my usual stop at Esrey Park and of course saw that the small shelter house is gone. I can’t recall if I had heard it was gone or had just forgotten. Didn’t know if it was erosion, vandalism or what. It was always such a special spot for my late wife and I to visit. Going to miss it.

While there my daughter was stung by a luminous green wasp.
Really got her attention. As best we could determine, it was a cuckoo wasp. Had never heard of that before but read up on it.
Nasty little creature. I learn something new every trip.

Bummer about the shelter at Esrey :( That was one of our earliest pictures on the Pasty Cam back in 1998.

I noticed that shelter was gone also. And
when I asked my husband if it was there last
time he just asked me what shelter?
Honestly, he's the one who would go sit in
it. I never even noticed it. Until a couple
of years ago when I asked my husband why he
was sitting in there and he said he always
does. But now he can't remember, lol. Should
I be worried? Or is he just catching my
forgetfulness?

Interesting video too!
