Kathryn...I said the same thing. I watched and fed
turkeys for years and never saw this.
They are so fun to watch!
I'd get a pack in, go out to throw seed, the girls
would make a "wheat, wheat, wheat" sound while
eating and the Tom would keep track, and if the
deer came in, the Tom would charge at them to make
sure his girls ate first. When they were done,
THEN the deer were allowed in. And the Tom...he'd
be going off with the girls, and I'd yell "Gobble,
Gobble, Gobble" and he'd yell "Gobble, Gobble,
Gobble" and we'd do that till they were out of
sight.

AND, their heads turn color...the second pic,
shows the red going up his head. Somedays they are
blue, somedays red.
I just looked it up:
Why does a turkey's head turn red?
If you have turkeys then you would know that the
skins of their head sometimes changes color. It
changes from red to blue to white depending on
their moods, emotions and health. Anxiety and
excitement can make a turkey’s head turn red. This
is due to visible blood vessels lying directly
under the skin of their head.
