During the fierce wind storm last week, Nancy Haun head out to Pequaming to capture a few shots of the boats that were seeking refuge in Keweenaw Bay. She said she has never experienced such winds where she felt she could actually be blown away!

From the location of the Ford Bungalow, overlooking Keweenaw Bay, she snapped a shot of the Mesabi Miner, in front of the Baraga Cliffs, along with several shots of the Bungalow. That beautiful home is 5000 square feet, with a great view overlooking Lake Superior and surrounded by a secluded wooded area. It was originally built and owned by the Hebard family who had a lumbering operation in the area and was eventually sold to Henry Ford, both the lumber operation and the bungalow, which then became a summer home for his family. He entertained important guests there and it is rumored that Henry himself, never spent a single night in the bungalow, preferring instead to sleep on his yacht. Present day it is privately owned, but the nine bedroom, six bathroom home can be rented out for an out-of-the way retreat.

We continue with the series of videos at the Soo Locks, from Andrea Guerriero over at DRE Designs – Great Lakes Marine Products, checking out the Poe Lock during the down time when the locks were closed and the water was drained for maintenance and repairs. Today we’re standing on the gates at the lock chamber.

Very nice pictures. I love seeing those ships
hunkered down during a storm.

Hoping she gets to the filing at the Soo. I love
watching them full up.

I've never explored the Ford connections and Alberta area and I'm even a Ford car guy.

Another nice shipping video. Nice to know there are people with a greater passion/obsession about something than me.

It's a veritable convoy out there:

Hi
I enjoyed the Soo lock video; I found it interesting
to see the lock without any water in it.

The ships that took refuge made me think of a book I
have titled "Great Lakes Shipwrecks and Survivals".
An updated version of that book describes the
sinking of the Edward Fitzgerald. I haven't heard of
any shipwreck that happened after that; please
correct me, Boatnerds, if there have been some.
