Quite the unique captures of what seems to be a halo surrounding the moon recently. Taana Blom captured these shots. I think her second shot is the coolest, though, with a jet slicing through the photo, leaving a line as it goes. She said she ordered a metal print of this photo and can’t wait to see how it turned out. I’m sure there’s a scientific explanation for what makes this happen, so I checked on Google and found this information from Space.com-Moon Halo.
The moon's halo or lunar halo is an optical illusion that causes a large bright ring to surround the moon. This striking and often beautiful halo around the moon is caused by the refraction of moonlight from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.”
Interesting, indeed. Don’t worry, there won’t be a test on this later, but now you can explain what causes this phenomenon and be the smart one in the crowd.
