George C. Bailey took advantage of a break in the cloudiness for a look at Lake Superior on the north shore of the Keweenaw Peninsula. From pancake ice in the first shot to mountains and valleys of ice, he captured it all for us to see. Pretty cool (pun intended) to see how the icicles form when the waves are big enough to wash right over the backside of the ice mountains. Then the valley the ice forms between the icy mountains, too. It looks like a plowed road in the last photo, like the ice roads they travel in Alaska. I can only imagine how cold it must be there surrounded by all that ice!
Heading back to Ripley for today’s video from In The Keweenaw. Enjoying a bluebird day at Mont Ripley. At first I thought perhaps bluebird is the name of a run at the ski hill, but then I did a Google search and found that in a Skier’s Vocabulary, Bluebird Day refers to “a period of time characterized by sunny, cloudless weather, typically after a night of snowfall,”
