The 33rd Parade of Nations and Multicultural Food Festival took place this past Saturday. Houghton and Hancock communities have been celebrating the cultural diversity of the Keweenaw since 1989 with a parade and International foods. This year’s theme was: “The World is One”.
Barbara Bouwkamp was in the spectator crowd and snapped some photos of the student and community participants in the parade. What a great way to celebrate the different cultures and nations that live here in the Copper Country. The parade concluded at the Dee Stadium in Houghton, where the Multicultural Food Festival was held. You could get a full meal or choose from international tidbits at more than a dozen food booths, with international student organizations offering the cuisine of their countries.
We have a video from a few years ago with some of the parade and also filming inside the Dee of the various food booths that were available. What an enlightening event and fun way to learn about different nations and their food.
