Chris Hendra has an assortment of critters for us today...one furry and the rest feathered. The squirrel in the first shot was snapped during the Copper Dog 150, where Chris figured it was ready and waiting for the dogs and sleds to race by. I bet it ran off as soon as he heard them approaching.
Next is a Ruffed Grouse, also referred to as a Partridge here in the Keweenaw. I’m not sure what the difference is between the two, all I know for sure is they make a cool “drumming” sound with their wings and when they take off in the woods, if you haven’t seen it yet, it will scare the daylights out of you.
That third shot is an American Goldfinch, which Chris thinks is sitting on a red twig dogwood branch. If you’re an avid bird watcher, you probably have noticed lately that they’re starting to get their bright yellow color back again. Always a good sign that spring can’t be too far off then.
We all know an Eagle when we see one. This one looks like it may have been feasting on some road kill before it perched on that broken tree stump. It’s looking pretty serious, too, probably watching the dinner it was picking at.
And last, but not least, Chris shares a picture of his winter wildlife photography blind. He has to be camouflaged in order to get those great close-ups that he does.
Valerie Holzberger reported that they have a new pet...and it’s pretty good with walking through the snow, too. Honestly, though, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Eagle walking through the snow like this. It’s pretty unique and fun to watch.

I always love wildlife photos. Birds are right up there with deer. Nice pictures.
I was gonna say that the eagle in the video is walking a little like a penguin. Very cool. I've never seen that before.

At first, I thought that eagle was injured till it jumped up on that railing. Love wildlife pictures.

That Eagle vid is amazing, and that bird has his eye on something......and he's gonna eat it.

Great Pics and really cool video!! Mary you are correct ... when walking thru the quiet woods and a Partridge takes flight... it sounds like a freight train coming at you because everything else is so quiet, and they're usually right next to you when it happens, I think they do it on purpose!!lol It'll get the heart pumping for sure!!
