The communities of Houghton and Hancock got together and planned a Community Night Out event this past Saturday, to end the summer with a bang. Houghton had Art on the Town on the parking deck, which included music, art and craft vendors. Across the canal, Hancock provided a beer garden and concert stage at Porvoo Park on the waterfront, with the band Rewind entertaining those that came.
A boat parade was also held, with requests that no boats which require the Bridge to be lifted be used in this parade. To top off the evening, a fireworks display marked the “end of summer” Community Night Out.
Special thanks to our photographers today: Beth Jukuri – the first two photos and Barbara Bouwkamp – the remaining photos.
Luckily, Kathy Erkkila Ptaszek had a front row seat in Finlandia’s upper parking lot, where she recorded some of the Pyrotechnics for us all to enjoy!

Hi
It sounds really nice. We were up at our cabin
near Cheboygan last weekend but are stuck
downstate this weekend. Our town (Jackson) had
fireworks Saturday in a local park but since I
kept my distance to avoid post-fireworks
traffic the view was partially blocked by
trees.
If anyone went on the Mackinaw Bridge
bridgewalk, I'd be interested in hearing how it
went. I've never done it with the current,
start-from-either end, system.
