Jean Dessellier has the knack with her camera, for capturing the critters around their home. These shots of the Pileated Woodpecker pair she captured are nothing short of amazing in my opinion. Such crisp, clear close-ups, you feel like you can reach out and tame down that wild hairdo in the third photo. The detail right down to individual feathers and the clarity of the woodpecker’s eye is magazine copy material. I for one am thankful that whenever I ask Jean if I can share her photos, her answer is always yes and she adds that she would be honored. So, keep snapping, Jean, and we’ll keep appreciating your artistry.

Our video is an interesting one, showing an example of the power of the Pileated Woodpecker’s beak. Check out the cavity it created in a white pine tree, looking for some dinner. I bet the colony of ants it found, thought they had a great place to stay safe for the winter. I wonder how long it took to excavate that opening in the tree?

Magnificent detail! I printed out a photo of that
mohawk and made an appointment with my hair
stylist.

Great pictures of these birds! At first I thought
it was feeding it's little ones. I sure hope the
tree survives!

Magnificent shots! It's hard to get close to
these guys, so Jean must have a nice zoom lens!
Kudos!
Alex, again you're cracking me up!!! LOL!!

These ARE outstanding...and a good camera is a
must for these beautiful shots!

That's a male. They have the red stripe on their
cheek...on the pic w/the fencepost, there's the
lady down below...waiting for the male to fill his
face!

Those are HARD pictures to get...they see one
little bit of movement and they are gone! They've
got a cool flight pattern...flap a couple and
cruise, flap a few more, and cruise...they go up
and down and up and down...all woodpeckers I have
seen, fly like that...I've noticed chickadees do
as well.

wonderful stuff!! Just GORGEOUS!
