A follow-up to yesterday’s Pasty Cam, Beth Jukuri shares photos of the river breaking up and the birds returning to the U.P. again. From the edges melting and running, to the mounds turning sandy and dirty as the snow does in the spring, to a couple geese standing on an ice flow surrounded by water. It’s looking more and more like spring is coming.
That last photo though, is an interesting one for sure. Beth said: “These chairs were along the river in the summer and they may still be on "shore", but now the shore has water on it.” That’s what happens when the snow and ice begins melting, the river rises and floods over the banks. Hopefully it won’t rise too much all at once, so there is no severe flooding. These “River chairs” reminded me of a photo that first appeared on the Pasty Cam back on April 15, 2004 and was shared a few more times throughout the years. I don’t think we ever found out for sure what this gentleman was doing, other than perhaps some bird watching.
Beth also shares a video of the river water running where the ice has opened up. That should help break up more of the ice down river I would think.
