Jeff Dennis and his family took advantage of the nice weather on Sunday and paddled their canoe from W. C. Veale Park on the 5 Mile Point Road, to the Sand Hill Lighthouse. Jeff figures it was about a 2 mile paddle and look, even Fritz, their doggie got to go along for the adventure. He said it was a long paddle, but a fairly calm evening, so it wasn’t so bad.
That’s an impressive Lighthouse there. It is the largest and last lighthouse built on the Great Lakes. It was renovated and turned into a Bed and Breakfast, but has changed ownership and is closed for 2020, while the new owners do some renovations of their own. It sure has been kept up on the outside, what a beautiful piece of architecture. Today’s video about the lighthouse, was produced by Spring Waters a few years back, when Bill and Mary (Mathews) Frebotta were operating it as the Bed and Breakfast. It has since been sold and is closed at this point, with no date set yet to reopen.

Pleasant summer pix and video! It's too bad that the lighthouse sits there vacant.

This lighthouse surely is one of the most majestic on Superior. I am so envious of the canoe outing Jeff and his family made. Also, it's always interesting to observe how the shorelines change year to year.
If I might, I'd like to share a couple of photos I took from what's left of the dock on July 4th 2013. The area seemed vacant then also with some repairs being made to the grounds.
Mary, Has there been any consideration to increasing the maximum file size for uploads to greater than 100K? That would help solve things like this. I try to keep files to the 440 x 660 standard.

Pasty Cam Wide Screen! Love the wide screen photo. Check out the pronunciation of Keweenaw at 0:27 in the video.

I stayed at a place near the lighthouse 2 weeks ago. Neighbor Toni W. said an October storm really battered the shoreline with the lake having the high water line. You can see a big difference in the lighthouse shoreline from the 2013 photo to the present photo.

First pic: The young man at the front of the canoe, taking in the view of the lighthouse...I'll bet he remembers that view for the rest of his life.

The wide screen photo is fine. The wide screen Cam Notes page, not so much. I don't really care to scroll back and forth and back and forth and back and forth to read the text!
A thumbnail picture that one can click for a larger image would work nicely.
In fact right now I can right-click on any image then choose Copy Image Location from the popup window, paste that in a new tab (or new window) then zoom in to see a larger image.
"And Michael Raymond's pronunciation of Keweenaw I find pretty darn rude, careless and offensive as well; you'd think he would have had the courtesy to learn how the locals pronounce it!", said Frank, wearing his Andy Rooney hat.¹ <frown>¹Andy Rooney", 60 Minutes' resident curmudgeon from 1978 to 2011.

I've never seen that one from the lake. Thanks for sharing!
