It seems I’m always learning something new while researching for notes to accompany the great shots our photographers share with us. Today’s photos are from Fred Koski over at Fred Koski Photography. He captured these shots of a Woodchuck in its natural habitat, the woodpile. So, you know I have to ask: How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? My research found this answer: A woodchuck could chuck as much wood as a woodchuck chucked if a woodchuck could chuck wood. Hmm...me thinks that doesn’t really answer the question, but OK.
Something I did learn though, is that a Woodchuck is also known as a Groundhog, a Marmot and in the south, a Whistlepig. It is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots. There, now I’ve imparted my new knowledge about Woodchucks to all of you.
The other thing I learned is that they make a squeaking call that sounds more birdlike than rodent like. Today’s video lets you hear that call and gives you a look at one in action.

We could ask U.C. the question, "How much wood would Chuck chuck if Chuck would chuck wood?". I don't know either. Kinda sounds like a motivational problem.

In middle Tennessee, long time ago, out in the open woods in the fall, we heard the strange, loud, almost human sounding "whistle" sound of quite a few Whistle-pigs communication over several acres. Erie, surreal sound....not often heard!
