Nancy Haun loves trains, so waiting for two hours for the train to come, is something she’s willing to do to capture photos and video. On this beautiful, snowy day, though, she thought she was filming the CN 5483 in Bovine, but discovered that she had forgotten to hit the record button. Nancy said the train was moving slow, so she hightailed it to L’Anse and snapped a couple photos as it was coming into town with snowy surroundings. She also said that deer on the tracks in the second photo stood there staring at the lights of the train for a while, but took off before it got too close to him.

Nancy remembered to hit the record button on the second attempt and captured this video, too. You can’t even see the tracks, they’re so covered with snow. I wonder if that’s why it was going so slowly.

Great pictures Nancy! So glad you made the second attempt - very impressive. And happy the deer decided to move on down the line. Thanks!

That ol' CN 5483 sure was rollin' into L'anse at blinding "Warp 9" speed!

Oh those railroad signals seem so 19th century, both …

and bells:

Quote:

Engine Bell:

If a train is equipped with an engine bell, it must be sounded:
1. When the engine is about to move.
2. When running through tunnels.
3. While approaching and passing public highway crossings at grade.
4. When approaching locations where Roadway Workers may be at work on tracks, bridges, and other points.
5. When passing a train standing on an adjacent track.
6. In an emergency. In cases where a momentary stop and start, forward and backward movement is part of a switching operation that does not involve movement over a public highway crossing at grade, the engine bell need not be sounded, unless Roadway Workers are known to be in the area.
