Judy Byykkonen sure knows all the dog friendly places to hike with her “girls”. She shares a photo of Zelda looking down an inviting looking trail on a trek around Calumet Lake in the Calumet Lions Club Park. I love how everything is finally greening UP.

The second photo was snapped in the Bootjack area by Reneč McConnon. Yes, those are American White Pelicans, around 21 of them in this shot. These unusual birds for the Keweenaw, are often spotted this time of year as they migrate from their winter home in the Gulf of Mexico. The migration map lists the Keweenaw as an “Uncommon” area for them to migrate through, so it’s a treat to see them when they go through.

Today’s video is a bit uncommon, also. Samantha Mathews made this video about a week ago, when a mother duck was waddling down the sidewalk on the main street of Houghton, first with five ducklings and by the time she was guided to the lake, she had seven ducklings in tow. Thanks to the good folks who stopped and directed traffic so this little family could get safely to Portage Lake.

Maybe she'll make her nest closer to the water next time! That 7th one sure kicked it into overdrive when it got to the water!! LOL!!
