What a treat from Sharon Bodenus of Upper Peninsula Photography, in the Marquette/Gwinn area today. She was out near Larson Lake, which is in Little Lake, when she captured these photos of two Sandhill Cranes. So close you can see the different color feathers, the red on the top of their heads and check out those eyes staring Sharon and her camera down!
She also made a video at Larson Lake that proves that it’s finally spring here UP North. Just listen to the peepers and you’ll get a bonus of the Sandhill Crane’s call, too.

I didn't know they were that colorful. A close friend couldn't remember what they were so while telling me about them she called Dirt Birds.

That's a lot of blue for Sandhill cranes. Not terribly unusual, but a lot. Great pictures. I can never get that close or maybe it's a very long lens.

The peepers and chorus frogs are a favorite harbinger of Spring!
